Laser Hair Removal Q & A

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses a focused beam of light to target your hair follicles, destroying hair as it forms before it has grown out from your skin. The laser beam is precise, so only the cells that produce hair are damaged, and the rest of your skin is not affected, leaving your skin supple, soft, and free of unwanted hair.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most patients don’t find laser hair reduction to be painful, but if you have very sensitive skin, it may be a little uncomfortable. The sensation is often compared to a rubber band snapping against your skin.

Can hair be removed from anywhere on the body?

The skilled aesthetics professionals at Lincoln Park Aesthetics can perform laser hair reduction on almost any area. Common areas targeted include:

  • Eyebrows
  • Upper lip
  • Jawline and chin
  • Neck
  • Armpits
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Hands and feet
  • Bikini line
  • Abdomen
  • Upper and lower back

Laser hair removal is a good option for sensitive areas, such as the Brazilian bikini line, or around the breasts.

How many laser hair removal treatments are needed?

Because your hair grows in stages, and not all of your hair is at the same stage at any given time, you’ll need a series of treatments for lasting hair reduction. How many treatments required varies, but usually at least 3-6 treatments are required for optimal results.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Laser hair removal is approved by the FDA and is considered to be quite safe. You may experience some mild side effects, such as redness or irritation, after your procedure, but these usually subside within 24 hours.

Your skin can be extra sensitive after laser hair removal, so you should avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week after your treatment.

Will my results be permanent?

A series of laser hair treatments usually results in a significant decrease in new hair regrowth. Laser hair removal can eliminate the mess and expense of shaving and give you soft, touchable skin that is free from unwanted hair.
