Tackle Those Deep Lines in Your Face With Dermal Fillers

Wrinkles, lines, and a hollowing out of certain areas of your face, like your cheeks, are a natural part of aging. However, that doesn't mean you have to live with these changes. Dermal fillers can help restore a more youthful appearance, even tackling those deep lines in your face.

Dr. Karol Gutowski and Dr. Julia Kerolus provide state-of-the-art care for a wide variety of aesthetic services and cosmetic treatments at our Lincoln Park Aesthetics office in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago. Whether you're looking for dermal filler treatments or another rejuvenating procedure, our expert team can meet all of your revitalizing needs.

Aging skin

There's no doubt aging takes a toll on your skin. Between the skin's collagen production decreasing by about 1% each year after age 20 and other internal changes, plus sun and environmental damage along with unhealthy habits, it's no wonder your once-smooth skin begins to develop wrinkles and sagging. This is where dermal fillers come in.

Injectable fillers are a great way to add volume and fill in wrinkles, even deep lines. This minimally invasive procedure is typically used on your face, neck, and hands. There are few risks, and results are noticeable immediately after the injections. While you may be asked to avoid strenuous activity for the rest of the day, you’re otherwise free to return to your daily routine.

Types of dermal fillers

Different dermal filler products work differently to replace lost volume, helping to smooth wrinkles, plump lips, and lift your skin to restore a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers can be broken down into three types:

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers

A naturally occurring substance, hyaluronic acid is used in temporary fillers to increase volume and fullness. These are similar to collagen-based fillers but are newer and tend to be used more often.

Semi-permanent fillers

Semi-permanent fillers usually last longer, as they contain thicker substances like poly-L-lactic acid, a biodegradable synthetic filler. This type of filler is often used to address those deeper facial lines.

Permanent fillers

Made of microspheres that are not absorbed by the body, such as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) along with collagen, permanent fillers are usually only used in areas where the skin is thick, such as on lines from the side of your nose to the corners of your mouth.

Treatment process

We begin with a consultation to discuss your areas of concern and go over your medical history. During the procedure itself, we inject the type of filler that best fits your needs in various places on your face and head, such as your forehead, around your eyes and lips, and along your jaw.

How many injections, where we place them, and how deep they go are determined primarily by the kind of filler we use and your goals.

If those deep lines in your face have you seeking smoother skin and a younger-looking appearance, call our office today at 618-224-3347 to make an appointment and find out if dermal fillers are right for you.
