How Microneedling Works to Stimulate Skin and Make You Look Younger

Most people know that too much sun exposure can prematurely age your skin. What some may not realize is even unhealthy habits seemingly unrelated to your appearance — a poor diet, excess alcohol consumption, and smoking — make you look older, too.

Microneedling can help reduce wrinkles and restore a more youthful glow, in spite of those bad habits. This nonsurgical procedure stimulates your skin and helps you turn back the clock.

Here at Lincoln Park Aesthetics, located in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago, Dr. Karol Gutowski and Dr. Julia Kerolus, along with our highly trained staff, offer a large variety of cutting-edge aesthetic services and cosmetic treatments. From providing procedures like microneedling to delivering innovative skin care products, we have everything you need to help you look and feel your best.

About microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure with a wide range of benefits from firmer skin and fewer fine lines and wrinkles to smaller, less visible pores. As you age, your skin loses the essential protein collagen, and this loss leads to wrinkles and sagging. Microneedling can help by encouraging the generation of new collagen and skin tissue.

Aside from the benefit of making you look younger, microneedling can address injuries to the skin, such as acne scarring, stretch marks, and wounds as well as other issues like skin pigmentation problems and rosacea.

How it works

We use the Eclipse MicroPen®, a state-of-the-art device that employs precisely spaced tiny needles to make perforations to the skin that are so small you can’t see them and are almost completely pain-free. These perforations encourage your body to generate new collagen, tissue, and growth factors that can help stimulate your skin to become firmer, more elastic, and clearer.

The microneedling procedure

The procedure takes about an hour and a half. We begin by applying a topical anesthetic to prepare your skin. Once it’s taken effect, we move the Eclipse MicroPen over your skin to perform the microneedling treatment, which takes about a half-hour. Next, we put growth factors on your skin to fill the micro-perforation channels and aid in wound healing. The last step is applying a calming serum.

Because the procedure is minimally invasive, your recovery time is short. You can use makeup starting four hours after the procedure. This can mask any redness of the skin that may occur in the first days following your treatment.

Your younger-looking results

Firmer, smoother skin is apparent immediately after your first microneedling procedure. For the best outcome, we suggest our clients get four procedures performed about a month apart, followed by an annual booster treatment to keep you looking your best.
